Is Gratitude Good For Your Overall Wellness ?

Gratitude is the appreciation of what is valuable and meaningful to oneself. Experiencing gratitude, thankfulness, and appreciation tends to foster positive feelings, which in turn, contribute to one’s overall sense of well being.

Wellness is not just made up of your weight and image. Wellness comprises your mental health, physical, and spiritual health.

Wellness also includes how you feel about yourself. Are you practicing self-care or burning yourself out trying to be Superwoman 🦸🏽‍♀️ for everyone else?

It’s time to take the cape off for once and think about where you are in your wellness journey.

Did you know that people who spend more time experiencing gratitude spend less time experiencing aches and pains and going to doctors.

Think about what you are grateful for while thinking of ☝🏾 way to improve your overall wellness.

Two Crucial Steps To Close The Year Out Strong!

Happy Labor Day!

Summer is coming to an end.

This has been a whirlwind of a year emotionally. I was listening to a podcast and the speaker referred to year 2020 as the “sacred pause”. Hmmmmmm, did you pause this year?

Covid brought the entire world to a halt. Businesses, schools, employment, social life immediately came to an end. We were forced to slow down, reflect and be intentional. There was time for relationships, time for communication, time for family, time to grow your business, time to workout, time to grow spiritually and more.

I believe everyone experienced some sort of a sacred pause (even if they didn’t want to) because these past months created a lot of time and opportunity for reflection and soul searching.

What changed for you as a result of the pause?

Now what’s next? How can we bounce back and still remain productive this year?

As we close out this quarter and begin to close out 2020 there are “2” very important things that you should focus on end the year strong:

  1. Practice gratitude daily- think about how fast the world shut down in a blink of an eye. Think about where you are now and practice gratitude. In every obstacle or situation something always comes out of it. What is it for you? Be grateful! Speak it! Write it! Share it!
  2. Stop 🛑 procrastinating! – we lost a legendary actor “T-Challa”, “ Black Panther” actor Chadwick Boseman amongst many others lives this year. Chadwick silently battled cancer for 4 years since the Black Panther movie and continued to make movies, appearances etc. What is holding you back? What would you do if you knew you only had the next 4 years to live. What would you fight to accomplish? What relationships would you mend? What would you launch?

Practicing gratitude and constantly staying in action will not only help you to focus on what matters but will ensure you stay productive and no longer just “busy”.

The One Thing I Learned During This Pandemic.

It certainly has been one heck of a year. We are currently in July with less than 6 months to go in 2020 and it has been quite eventful.

One thing I can say for sure is that the pandemic and the recent events with George Floyd and many others have really provided an opportunity for the world to be still and open our eyes to see what’s really going on around us.

The pandemic has certainly slowed me down and re-shifted my focus. It made me really think about the things that are truly important like prayer and time with family. As a front-line worker I surely had to pray for my safety and that of my family multiple times a day.

Although I was still busy with work, I actually spoke with more people over the phone, connected with folks more than ever, and had more family time. I mean the hustle and bustle stopped! 🛑

Vanity certainly went out the window for me along with many others with the closing of barbershops, beauty salons, nail salons, gyms etc. and my husband became a gourmet chef.

These enduring times really helped me to realize one thing and one thing for sure, there are a lot of things I can truly do without that I thought I needed and what I thought I didn’t need or didn’t have time for I truly did need.

Three Ways to Overcome Negative Emotions.

Are your emotions  leading you down the wrong path and affecting your decision-making?

Do you keep questioning yourself  ….”Should I start a business”, “Do I know enough people?”, “Can I be successful?”⠀

Here are three ways to help you win over your negative emotions:⠀⠀

  1.  Remember the beliefs and values you’re committed to. Know what you believe in and your values. Tap into your spiritual connection through prayer, and meditation. Use these actions as a means to reverse negative thoughts and emotions⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  2. Stick to your committed beliefs and values and to overcome your negative emotions . Don’t steer away from your beliefs and values when your negative emotions start to kick in. Create an affirmation that you can repeat whenever negative emotions start to kick in. This can help you increase self-belief and to remain committed and consistent when overcoming negative emotions   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  3. Surround yourself around positive people. Contact your mentor, coach or like-minded friend, or even think about changing your environment. Go for a walk, workout, yoga etc., These are a few ways you can change your state and become more positive.
    Your emotions will destroy your piece of kind, cloud your judgement and your ability to make decisions, especially negative emotions.

Don’t let negative emotions define your life and business. Live life by your commitments and not your feelings!

Hi I can remember a time when I was struggling to consistently build my side
business while working full-time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I had every excuse, I’m tired, my family needs me, I don’t feel like it, I don’t have enough time etc. At the end of the year I realized so much time had passed and I was not a productive as I could have been.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I had to seriously reflect and make a decision. Either I would continue to make excuses or I can operate in my purpose. When I made the decision that I would no longer make excuses that was when my business changed drastically!

One thing I did to maximize productivity and consistency waste create non-negotiable time in my daily schedule just for business building. This helped me to overcome my “ I don’t have time” excuse.

How are you doing?

I know it’s been a while since I reached out but just know that it’s all for a good cause. I am a frontline worker in the hospital 5 days a week preparing and battling this Covid-19 pandemic.

One thing I have come to realize is that God surely has a way of humbling you and making you slow down. It’s safe to say that this Pandemic has put a whole lot of things into perspective for me.

I am certainly resting more, praying more than ever, creatively spending more time with family, appreciating conversations over text messages,
staying productive and remaining grateful.

My Personal Lesson in Goal-setting!

Why You Should Consider Changing Your Plan and Not Changing Your Goal?

Have you ever decided to stop pursuing your dreams because the plan you had didn’t work?

Well, I’m here to tell you that most times things do not go according to plan and yet you can still have a great outcome and even accomplish your goal?

I will never forget when I became pregnant my senior year of high school. I received my college acceptance letter to go away to school for nursing and boy I was excited until I looked down at my moving belly. The first thing I thought about was I can never become a nurse now.  I truly contemplated changing my goal of becoming a nurse and I started thinking about what else can I do. I decided to go to school to become a medical assistant. I figured this will start getting me the exposure I needed.

I ended up working at a local hospital as a temp in the file room and they hired me full-time making $33,000  year at 21 doing registration. That was good money to pay for daycare and more. The goal of becoming a nurse became more real to me and I revisited and revised my plan. I was able to start school part-time and eventually left and went to school full-time to complete my nursing degree. At this young age throughout all my trials and obstacles I didn’t give up on my goal.  Although it took me an extra 2 years to get started, I accomplished my goal by simply being open to revise my plan and not change my ultimate goal.

This has constantly been a reminder for me anytime things do not go according to plan to simply change my plan and not the goal. I continue to face this in life, business, personal and more but I remembered how overcame as a teen mom and if I can do it then I can definitely do it again over and over now.

New Month, New Game plan!

Happy November!

It’s a New Month!

My favorite season is fall and it’s a great opportunity to shed some things and make some changes. 🍁 .

I struggled the last quarter with my time management. I realized that in order to ensure that I finish this quarter strong and have great momentum heading into the New Year, that It will take me changing some habits and creating new ones.

I made up my mind that today will be my New Year.

This is the perfect time to start over.

Ain’t nothing like a good ol’ reset!

One thing you can do to start the process of a reset is to take a day to disconnect from social media. Use this time to really be intentional about  meditating and listening for your next moves. Often times the different things we see on social media tend to cloud our vision and create confusion. We start to think we should be doing what others are doing. This is one  great way to reset and get clarity.

As seasons change understand that there are also seasons in your relationships, business, ministry, career etc.

For this season, you are embarking on something new. Make the change, shed and say NO to some things,  reset and adjust your clock ⏰ this season.

It will be your best ever. . . . .
